The zoo's new master plan compares animals that utilize grasslands from North and South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia. The zoo cares for more than 800 animals representing over 200 species. The zoo maintains (2) species of primates, African Elephants, Giraffes, Zebras, Jaguars, Bison, and several aquariums.
The zoo visitor is encouraged to explore the zoo's Discovery Center, learning how West Texas is similar to Africa. The zoo also has several newly renovated exhibits, including the Hyena Exhibit, Black Bear Exhibit, and the Lion Exhibit. Additionally, the Zoo has several new features, including our new Colobus Monkey exhibit, as well as a new pavilion. .
The Zoo Education Department provides educational programs, summer camps, weekend educational programs, weekly story times, tours, and special events year-round. Special events include: Enrichment Day, Zoo Day, Wildflower Day, Zoolute to Dyess, Zoo Serenade, Boo at the Zoo, etc.
