Elmwood Park Zoo (Visit this link)

Our focus at Elmwood Park Zoo is on animals of American origin (North, Central, and South.) Our collection includes very large animals, like the massive American bison, and the very small, like the comical black-tailed prairie dog.

Among our most popular animals are the energetic River Otters in the Andrew L. Lewis Wetlands Aviary, our cougars, and our spotted and melanistic (all-black) jaguars.

The Zoo is also proud to exhibit animals that are either presently endangered (like the jaguar, bison, and Chinese alligator) or represent successful returns from the endangered species list, like the bald eagle. One of our newest exhibits features the black-footed ferret, considered to be among the most endangered animals in North America. A massive conservation effort, led by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) is presently restoring these animals, once considered hopeless, to the American prairies.
