Kiwi & Birdlife Park (Visit this link)

Established in 1986 by the Wilson Family, who still run the Park today, the Kiwi & Birdlife Park was set up to display and protect endangered New Zealand Birdlife.

A Former refuse site has been transformed into a beautiful naturally landscaped Park filled with a variety of endangered Native birds and plants. All through the Park colourful fun signage tells the story of our native birds.

Within the Kiwi & Birdlife Park you can enter the nocturnal world of New Zealand's elusive National Icon the Kiwi, at home amongst the Tree Ferns in unique "Kiwi Houses" a rare experience as the Kiwi is known for its shyness and elusive manner while living in the wild. The Kiwi & Birdlife Park is a unique piece of land which has been developed to provide visitors with the opportunity to experience a stroll through New Zealand's native bush with the ease of accessibility - our Garden Trail tells of the links between our native plants, our Birdlife and Maori & Early Settlers.

Our aviaries nestle amongst the bush and wild Tui, Bellbirds & Fantails can be spotted in amongst the surrounding trees and a mixture of waterfowl make their home in the main pond.

Each aviary has been designed to reflect the birds' natural habitat - surrounded by Pines our owls keep a watchful eye over the Park, while our cheeky Kea play in their aviary at the top of the Park.

The World's rarest wading bird, the Black Stilt, searches for insects in their river flat home and our endangered Brown Teal nest near a flowing stream. Colourful parakeets play amongst the branches, whilst Banded Rail scurry through the undergrowth.

Our Eco-friendly Souvenir shop is well worth a visit. Full of New Zealand made products we carry on the theme of the Park with natural and handmade products which reflect the surrounding Flora and Fauna.

So take some time out and relax in our tranquil native bush surroundings, listen to the calls of the birds and the soft sound of flowing water in the Kiwi & Birdlife Park - a magical place to visit.

The Kiwi & Birdlife Park is located close to the centre of town (near the Gondola terminal) and has excellent car and coach parking immediately outside the main entrance and facilities building. A visit to the Kiwi & Birdlife Park takes between 45mins - 1hr. Open 7 days per week every day except Christmas Day.
