Grand Canyon trip leaders, pilots, and guides have one of the most diversely demanding professions available in today's workworld. Conducting a 280 mile passenger-carrying trip down the canyon-locked Colorado River involves technical, mechanical, paramedical, culinary, interpretive and leadership skills, plus responsibility for passengers, equipment, and self.

Canyoneers' river staff–a small team of students, teachers, and outdoor recreation professionals–frequently say that they have some of the best summer jobs in the world.

That may be because they enjoy their work so much. They're versed in the natural and human history of the canyon, as well as personal fields of interest they'll be glad to share with you, to make your trip enjoyable, instructive, and entertaining.

Around the turn of the century Grand Canyon was inhabited by some very colorful frontier–type characters. Our river folks can tell you about those, too, and before your trip is over you may suspect that some of today's guides are some of today's–and maybe tomorrow's–canyon characters.
