Georgetown House Tour (Visit this link)
The Georgetown House Tour, America's oldest house tour, welcomes tour groups of all sizes. In fact, the first Georgetown House Tour was a bus tour that cost $1.00 per person. The bus drove past the houses while a guide gave information about the houses and Georgetown. Myrna Loy, a very popular film star of the era, had her house shown on that first tour. Now some seventy plus years later, the Georgetown House Tour has changed considerably, but tour groups are always welcome.
Tour houses open from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is a walking tour and visitors are invited into the impressive homes and beautiful gardens. Docents will be in each room of the houses to answer questions and give information of special interest.
Special arrangements are made so that visits of tour groups will be as convenient as possible. Special arrangements are also being made for tour bus parking. (Please Note: Georgetown House Tour 2006 does not supply tour buses) Tour buses will have easy accessibility to the beginning stop of the walking tour at St. John's Church, to rest facilities and to enjoy the afternoon tea that is included in the tour ticket. The group tour bus route map shows the best routes for bus travel coming to Georgetown from all directions. As several Georgetown streets, including 33rd Street, prohibit buses, the routes indicated on the map are the ones recommended.
