We live for surf, and have shared our passion for surfing with thousands of people since 1999. Our surfing lessons and camps are conducted with a professional, hands-on, and supportive style that is second to none.

Surfing is a healthy, expressive, and fun way to experience the beach. Our surfing lessons are ideal for beginners who want to learn to surf, and we offer intermediate and advanced surf instruction to hone the skills of any surfer.

With proper surfing instruction, most students experience the thrill of riding a wave during their first class. Soon you can be up and riding a surfboard with the incredible feeling that only the sport of surfing can provide!

San Elijo State Beach is one of the premiere beach camprounds in California. Camp at our surf school, steps away from the sand, lulled to sleep by the sounds of the ocean, and wake up ready to drop into the highest quality surf lessons available.

Eli Howard Surf School began in 1999. Aaron, the school's first student stood up and rode a wave for his first time at South Ponto (South Carlsbad State Beach). Since Aaron, the school has come a long way.

Eli Howard Surf School was founded by Leucadia locals Greg Eli Kessler, and Mike Howard Kessler. The brothers grew up in North San Diego County. They had a passion for surfing instilled at a young age. Attending a surf school and aquatic camp at Mission Bay as youngsters, they knew they'd be surfers the rest of their lives.

Having garned so much enthusiasm for surfing at a young age, and realizing how much a quality surf camp experience can makde a difference in people's lives, they are now happy to give back to the sport that has given them so much. Since 1999, Eli Howard Surf School has taught thousands of people to surf, has conducted day surf camps for kids since 2001. Everyone from kids as young as five and six, all the way up to some in their 60's and 70's have learned a love of surfing through the school.

But this love of the water was not restricted to the ocean. The brothers, along with general manager and instructor Emily, all worked as river guides, whitewater rafting the class IV and V rivers of California and the world. Here they learned how to give the finest camping and outdoor experiences, and how to share their passions, while catering to the individual needs of people from all walks of life.

The result is that Eli Howard Surf School offers the finest quality surfing lessons, surf camps and outdoor experience possible.

In 2004, Eli Howard Surf School was awarded the California State Parks permits from among the many who applied. Based on Eli Howard Surf School's experience, reputation, and visions for the future, they were offered their choice of locations. Eli Howard Surf School has since stepped up to the plate, and is now running surf lessons and surf camps out of San Elijo State Beach campground.
