Sunday River Cross Country Ski Center in Newry, Maine caters to family winter fun with innovative kids programs including K’s for Kids and Early Strides, skier friendly trail design and a sunny, inviting day lodge.
Comfortable Trails- Step off our sunny deck and you are on your way to enjoying our 40 kilometer network of Nordic ski trails. Our state of the art snow cat grooming equipment and dedicated staff enable us to provide the finest skiing surface despite ever-changing weather conditions. Tracks are set on all trails and most have skating lanes. The trails are designed concentric loops with easier terrain closest to the ski center. Winding through the woods, the trails pass picnic sites and lead to favorite destinations such as Artists' Covered Bridge. Beginner and experienced skiers alike can find a comfortable route or a new challenge.
Friendly Staff- Jeremy Nellis, Nordic Director, and his well-trained staff are ready to welcome you, answer your questions and give guidance on clothing, equipment and trail conditions. Whether you are new to the sport or looking to improve your skills, our ski school can assist you with a ski lesson that suits your needs. Demo equipment is available for rent by the hour or through our rental program. Our rental shop carries a full size range of up to date cross country ski equipment featuring Fischer no-wax skis including the Nordic Cruising line, Karhu and Fischer skate skis, Salomon Profile boot/binding system and Excel poles. Pulk sleds are available for babies and toddlers to join the family on the trail.
Full Service Ski Shop- Our ski shop offers the latest in Fischer and Karhu recreational Nordic skis, Fischer/Salomon boots, Excel poles, Sport Hill, Smartwool, Turtle Fur, and Swix clothing, accessories and souvenirs. Need to have your skis waxed or a binding fixed? Our knowledgeable staff can help you with equipment repairs to get you back out on the snow!
Sunny Day Lodge- The sunlit day lodge overlooks the practice terrain and has a view of the nearby Sunday River downhill ski slopes. Watch your children skiing and sledding on the hills while you take a relaxing break from the trails. Our food counter offers a variety of snacks, drinks, soups and light lunch items. A wax room with benches is also provided.
Snowshoeing too … Sunday River XC Center is also a Snowshoe center offering 12 km of well marked snowshoe trails, Tubbs Snowshoe rentals & sales and guided tours at night to view the fireworks. Our snowshoe trails wind through the woods along a picturesque brook and climb up Barker Mountain for terrific views. Snowshoeing is a great way to enjoy the winter outdoors.
