Rogue Scuba (Visit this link)
We like to say that scuba diving is "serious fun." Diving is fun (and exciting) on many levels: the freedom of floating weightless, the splendor of underwater life, the challenge of different environments and conditions. But you need serious training to acquire the knowledge and skills that make you a safe and capable diver. And as your abilities increase with experience and continuing education, so will your confidence and your enjoyment.
Rogue Scuba is proud to be affiliated with SSI, Scuba Schools International. We are an SSI Platinum-Level training facility, offering courses from beginning Open Water Diver to Dive Instructor, using our own classroom facilities, our own pool, and our own staff.
Try Scuba- Not sure whether scuba is for you? With Try Scuba, you can experience scuba diving in our pool under the guidance of an instructor. With a short orientation to the principles and the equipment of scuba, we’ll get you breathing and moving under water in our pool. A Try Scuba session can be scheduled almost any time of day—call us!
Open Water Diver- A lifetime of scuba diving begins with Open Water Diver. On successful completion of this course you’ll have a Certification Card ("C-Card") and diver’s logbook. These allow you to rent dive gear and tanks, and to join diveboat excursions and diving vacations around the world.
By the end of the course you should know how to assemble and use your diving equipment, how to plan and execute a safe dive, and how to deal with the most common problems underwater. We offer Open Water Diver courses each month, one on Saturday and Sunday afternoons over two weeks, and one on Tuesday and Thursday evenings over three weeks. Click here for our introductory letter to new students, with links to the forms we use to begin training. Or drop by the shop any time to ask questions, look at the course materials, or meet an instructor.
Adapted Diver and Escorted Diver- The joy of scuba diving is within reach of people with disabilities as well. Underwater, with neutral buoyancy established, all divers are equally stable in the water. Add to this the benefits of swimming: increasing strength, flexibility, bone mass, and coordination. Top it off with a boost in independence and self-esteem, and it’s easy to see why adapted divers are so keen on scuba!
We at Rogue Scuba are proud to offer one of Oregon’s first Adapted Diver training programs. The Adapted Diver course is designed for paraplegics and others with strength, mobility, or nervous system issues, but with the ability to propel themselves through the water (for example, with their arms) and with responsibility for their own safety. The Escorted Diver course trains a buddy pair. One diver controls and propels the less-able diver (for example, a quadriplegic) and they dive with a second buddy team of open water divers for additional support and safety.
Course content is substantially the same as in the Open Water Diver Course: home study of the Open Water Diver manual classroom sessions at our shop. If you're interested, please give us a call! We offer Adapted and Escorted Diver training as private classes, scheduled to meet your needs, with an instructor specially trained in adaptive scuba techniques.
Snorkeling- For those who aren’t divers but enjoy observing the ocean life from the surface, our Snorkel Diver program is a single pool session full of tips and advice to help make snorkeling easier and more fun.
Scuba Rangers-Scuba Rangers is a program for eight to fifteen year olds that combines scuba training with social activities. In addition to learning skills and safe practices underwater, Rangers learn about goal-setting, self-esteem, discipline, and respect for the aquatic environment.
Scuba Skills Update- If you haven't dived for a few months, you can make the most of your next dive trip by taking a Scuba Skills Update session before you go. One session in our pool is all it takes to recapture that confident feeling you gained in your Open Water Diver course. Review dive planning, practice your self-aid skills, and give your equipment a test run, all under the guidance of a qualified dive leader. We can schedule a session at your convenience!
Specialty Courses- Once you’ve been certified as an Open Water Diver, our Specialty Courses can introduce you to world of diving possibilities. Our instructors combine classroom sessions with pool and open water experience to prepare you for special diving practices, equipment, and environments.
