The Soaring Center which has been in existance since the early 1990s is now owned by Steve Mayer. We offer paragliding instruction, sales, repair service and tandem flights. The Cloud 9 Soaring Center continues to be the largest paragliding school in the United States, growing every year. Training pilots is what we do every day, come see us for your first lesson or advanced mountain clinic.
Our shop is located in Draper, Utah which is stocked with the latest paragliding gear, a factory certified repair facility and other gear for just about any other extreme sport you can think of. The latest addition to our services is a state of the art web store which will help you access our many products from across the globe.
A new focus for the shop is kites. From kids kites to box kites, from traction buggies to kite surfing, we have what you need! Kite Surfing and Kite Buggies are HOT! If you liked flying a kite as a kid, check out what the big boys and girls are flying! We also have giggits and gadgets from yo-yo's to off-road rollerblades and skate boards. Have to many summer sports? Try Snowkiting during the colder months! If you already own a snowboard or skis then you already have half of your gear. Come in to Cloud 9 and check out or selection of Ozone kites and accessories.
Sometimes Mother Nature does not play fair and we can not fly due to weather so the new pilots lounge offers some relief. We have a place to take a nap, a climbing wall, DVD players to watch flying and educational videos. We have a computer in the shop with internet access for you to check your email or check to see when it will be flyable next. We strive to make your stay as productive as possible. Close to half of our clients come from out of town to learn to fly so we help you find a hotel and other activities to keep you entertained on your vacation. Paragliding is a fun, safe way to experience flight in its simplest form. You simply lay out a wing on a hillside or mountain, inflate it over your head like a kite, then walk to the edge of the hill and step off into the sky! Once in the air, a pilot is able to maintain and even gain altitude using lifting air currents and thermals. The entire paragliding set up weighs less than thirty pounds and easily fits into a backpack.
Flights of several hours are common and the record distance traveled by a paraglider is 209 miles! Landing a paraglider is extremely easy. A pilot simply steers it into the landing area, and glides down for a very gentle return to earth. There are over 180,000 paraglider pilots around the world. The number of pilots is increasing at a staggering rate as people realize how safe, easy, and affordable it is to learn this silent form of flight.
