Children's Museum of Maine (Visit this link)
Our permanent exhibits have earned us an amazing reputation. The Children's
Museum of Maine was recently voted 14th in the nation by Child Magazine. Our
programs and activities, which change constantly, provide incredible learning
opportunities for both children and their caregivers. As we grow, we will remain
dedicated to proactively addressing the unique nature and needs of the numerous
communities that we serve.
Located in the Arts District in downtown Portland, the Children's Museum of
Maine features a wide variety of interactive exhibits and activities for
children and families!
Imaginations are motivated in Our Town on the first floor, which features a
lobster boat, an interactive supermarket, a vet clinic, a fire truck, a farm, a
soft gated play-and-learn area for toddlers, and a car repair shop. Also on the
first floor, our newest exhibit called Have a Ball offers exciting opportunities
to explore the science of motion.
Young explorers love the Explore Floor, a series of interactive science exhibits
depicting the natural resources of the State of Maine. Exhibits feature a Ranger
Station, climbing wall, water table, lumber yard and tree house, and a tide pool
touch tank.
The Museum also offers a dress up theater complete with stage and costumes,
miniature planetarium shows, daily art, science and multicultural programs,
special toddler times and the amazing Camera Obscura, which delivers an
unbelievable panoramic view of the City of Portland and Casco Bay - it's one of
only three of its kind in the country!
During the warm months, the Museum's outdoor Shipyard is a great place to have
lunch while sailing a pirate ship into port!
