Bloomfield Cabins & Camping (Visit this link)
Bloomfield Cabins and Camping adjoins Daintree, Cape Tribulation, Cedar Bay and Black Mountain National Parks and is the ideal spot for those who appreciate wilderness, World Heritage and Wet Tropics areas and wilderness beaches. It is also an ideal stop-over for those travelling to "The Top". The Bloomfield ten-acre camping grounds are fanned by breezes from the Coral Sea and the bushland campsites provide campers with an unrestricted view of the myriad stars of Tropical North Queensland.
Located close to the Aboriginal township of Wujal Wujal, Bloomfield Cabins and Camping is situated on Weary Bay at the northern end of the 4wd (all-wheel drive) Bloomfield Track between Cape Tribulation and Cooktown. Bloomfield, which is 188kms north of Cairns, Queensland, Australia, is the closest point to the Great Barrier Reef and is surrounded by World Heritage and Wet Tropics areas. A mangrove swamp adjoins the property on the east and when it is dry the beach is accessed via a track around the mangroves.
The licensed restaurant serves good-quality meals at budget prices. A camp kitchen is adjacent to the restaurant.
The Bloomfield area has close associations with Captain James Cook. In 1770, the barque "Endeavour" struck the reef north-east of Weary Bay as it sailed up the east coast of Australia.
Captain Cook proceeded to Hope Islands and crew members rowed a longboat into Weary Bay north of the Bloomfield River to look for suitable timber and to investigate the feasibility of careening the "Endeavour" in the Bloomfield River in order to effect repairs. Weary Bay was named by Captain Cook's crew members (for obvious reasons) but was considered to be an unsuitable site for their requirements. The 'Endeavour' proceeded to Cooktown where the necessary repairs were carried out in the Endeavour River. Captain Cook sailed into the Endeavour River (where Cooktown is located today) in April 1770, departing in June 1770. The village of Ayton (.5 km from Bloomfield Cabins) was named after Great Ayton, Yorkshire where Captain Cook was born.
Bloomfield Cabins & Camping ideal central location for tourists visiting Historic Cooktown, Bloomfield Falls and Roaring Meg Falls, Cedar Bay and Black Mountain National Parks, Daintree and Cape Tribulation National Parks, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and Hope Islands and Bloomfield River.
